Curtis Cheney Sr., Past President
Golden Triangle Development

Curtis Cheney brings 21 years of development experience to the United Business team. After founding Golden Triangle Development Corp. in 1989, Mr. Cheney went on to work with Emeritus Homes in the early 1990s, he joined the NRP Group when it was formed in 1994 and served as Vice President of Development until December 2008. Golden Triangle Development was restructured as an United Business Company in 2009.


Mr. Cheney has been active in packaging tax credit and tax exempt bond financed projects. He coordinates the process from the initial procurement of non-profit agencies who act as sponsors, through the preparation of the tax credit application and corresponding grant applications.

Other activities include project feasibility and viability reviews, site selection and property acquisition for each project. He coordinates zoning, environmental reviews, architecture and engineering before transitioning the projects to the construction phase.

Highlighted Experience
Mr. Cheney has been responsible for the origination of and development for over 2000 single family units, approximately 1000 independent living units for seniors and a commercial strip mall financed with new market tax credits. He moved to Louisiana in January 2006, just after Hurricane Katrina and has completed two developments of new single family housing.

Leadership in the Industry
Mr. Cheney serves on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Association of Affordable Housing Providers (LAAHP), an advocacy group promoting the issues that confront members of the development community. He currently holds the position of President of the organization. (Term 2010-2011)

Leadership in the Community
As a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and lodge member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Mr. Cheney participates in numerous volunteer efforts within the community. He was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the Girl Scout Council of Southeast Louisiana. (Term 2011)
